Training, energy, and commitment will get you performing in a ComedyWorx show. Many think you have to be born a Robin Williams to do this. But these are learned skills that you can learn in our comprehensive training program if you put in the energy and commitment. The process involves three steps: |
Step 1: |
You must start with the Intro to Improv class In the class you will gain insight into how improvisation works, learn theater games, do some scene work and have lots of fun. This workshop give you the basics while improving your self-confidence, spontaneity, problem solving, and ability to work as a team. If you are interested in performing at the conclusion of the class we will determine if you are ready to advance to the next step or if you need to repeat the class. Most people repeat the class several times and experience different instructors. When you are ready and have the approval of your instructor you can move on to step 2 |
Step 2: |
You become a trainee with our Associate Troupe also known as the Intermediate Games and Skills class. In this class you will learn advanced skills including scene work, mime, and music, some of the intricacies of the essential games, the roles of various performers, and the ComedyWorx format. It will be determined if you have the attitude, learning skills and commitment to perform improv. In addition to the Associate troupe instructor each participant will be assigned a personal mentor who will assist them by providing notes (critique) and encouraging them to participate in the various workshop activities. When you have demonstrated an ability to learn and a commitment to doing so with the recommendation of your menter and he Associate program manager you can move on to Step 3. |
Step 3: |
You become an associate performer also known as Associate performer/Advanced Techiques class. In this class when you master specific skills you will perform in special shows for Associate performers. As an associate performer you would participate in our permanent Thursday night (7 - 10 p.m.) workshop/practices led by senior ComedyWorx resident performers/instructors. It includes advanced skill training, instruction in all aspects of the ComedyWorx show. Associates will receive regular notes at weekly practices and comprehensive periodic reviews. Associates who attain certain skill levels will be allowed to perform in evening ComedyWorx performances. |
